Easter Egg Hunt

On Easter Sunday, 8 April 2007, I went on an Easter egg "hunt" at Paradise Point, an island in the middle of Mission Bay, San Diego. As you'll see from the following pictures, we didn't really have to hunt for the eggs...

Before the event, I posed for a picture with my Dad and my Grammy. I'm wearing a fancy new hat--my Easter basket!

Hundreds of families lined up for the egg hunt, beside the miniature sailboat pond.

How long will it take us to find the eggs?

Once the egg hunt started, it was a mad dash to collect as many eggs as possible.

Within seconds, all of the eggs were gone and I had a full basket. Each egg contained a different kind of candy.

Easter Event at the Marston House

Tucked into one corner of Balboa Park is an historic house that most people in San Diego don't know is there. The Marston House is in the Arts and Crafts style and was built in 1905 by a family that owned a popular department store and did a lot of philanthropy.

On 1 April 2007, the San Diego Historical Society held an Easter event at the Marston House, which I attended with my Dad and Grammy. I hunted for Easter eggs, went on a tour of the house, met the Easter bunny, and played bean bag toss. The weather was perfect and we had a great time, enjoying what felt like a small town event, though we're in a big city.

This is the Marston House with the driveway leading to the porte cochere. Can you believe I know that fancy French term? My Dad taught it to me.

Woo hoo, I found a bunch of Easter eggs with prizes inside! In this picture I'm holding a purple egg in my right hand.

Grammy posed with me by the back patio of the house, while an old-fashioned band set up.

I tossed a bean bag at the target...

...and here's the follow-through.

Renderings of the New House

My Dad generated these computer images of the house that he designed. I'd say that construction of the house is about 1/3rd complete.

View from the North, showing the house extending down into the canyon.

Here are some pictures of the Japanese Garden in Balboa Park, taken by my Dad using his cell phone camera.

Middle Level of House in Progress

In late March 2007, this is what the middle level of our house-under-construction looked like. Since the house is on a canyon edge, it's taken many months to excavate and prepare a foundation.

View from the middle level of the house toward the steel portion of the frame. The flimsy wooden railing is there to keep the construction workers from accidentally going over the edge.

Excavation near the street, where my bedroom and bathroom will be.

This is a similar view a couple weeks later, with the rebar in place for a concrete pour, to form the foundation and retaining wall at the middle level of the house.

And up close, you can see that it looks a bit like an archeological dig!

Balboa Park in San Diego

Balboa Park is one of the best places in San Diego. I love the zoo, the playgrounds, the train museum, the botanical gardens, and the seasonal events like Christmas on the Prado. Here are a few pictures taken with my Dad's new cell phone camera.

My Friend Roby's 7th Birthday

On 18 March 2007, my friend Roby had his 7th birthday party at an amusement center called Boomer's. At the end of the party, we played a game of miniature golf.

I was in a golf threesome with Riley and Roby.

This is the whole birthday gang, somehow convinced to stand still even though we were all sugared-up on birthday cake and soda.

Roby, Riley, and I watched the golf action while waiting for our turn. You can kinda tell that we're coming down from our sugar high.
